    Keyless entry help.

    Hi guys,

I posted this in the keyless entry thread, but nobody read that anymore....

I've spliced my blue and green wires into the appropriate trunk wires, I'm getting power across the 12v line and the ground and if I plug the harness into the unit whilst the car is locked/unlocked the car will unlock/lock. However, neither of the remotes will unlock or lock the car.
Once the harness is plugged in I cannot use the trunk lock to unlock or lock the car, hoever, if I use the doors, the trunk will still lock/unlock.

    Please help?

You need to program the remotes. I forgot how to do it but read the instructions it's there.

So, let me get this straight....if you plug your keyless module in, the trunk lock doesn't work, but the doors still do?

This right here is WHY I say DON"T INSTALL THE FUCKING THING IN THE TRUNK!

Do you own a DNV? Figure out if that POS module has output when disconnected from the lock wires.

So where should I install it?
I've seen people say install it in the kickpanel, but it looks like these are using the same wires as the one's from the trunk.

Edit: oh yeah, my wires seem different to the ones in the keyless entry thread. Being from Aus I had to buy a different unit to everyone else.

I've got a brown and white wire for external alarm.
        Red and black for power.
The blue and green. (Unlock and lock I assume)
And an additional brown and white wire.

        Thanks for any help.

Thats a stupid thing to say, when it clearly can be a wiring problem or a problem with the module.

I don't see how the location has any effect.

Check your connection, The wires leading to the trunk lock are probably not making a good connection with the others.

You may want to phrase things more carefully when speaking to me: I am an almighty God and I may smite thee!

Nope, Trunky-poo is far far more likely to get WET, the enemy of electronics. Plus the lack of current "swing" from the lock/UL outputs (I have heard no mention of relays) means instead of voltage tripping relays from 2 feet, he is trying to trigger those relays from about 12 feet...see how a weak signal may not be happy getting all the way to the relays?

Plus, you would have weaker voltage unless you went directly to the battery...figure it this way: everything starts at the battery, goes forward then comes back. Weaker voltage, no matter what.

A trunk mounted alarm is dumb, period.

As far as the whole "problem with the module", 99.999% of the time, the rule is "BLAME THE INSTALLER". Trust me on this, I have been a professional installer since 1980 (er, sorry, 19-motherfucking-80) I have a few sayings that never falter. One of them is "blame the installer" meaning if everything is fucked up and does not work, blame the installer.

Conversely, if everything works great, hassle-free, no problemo...blame the installer.

I trunk mounted my keyless entry and it works fine for a $30 mod.

OK, so since I have been installing professionally since 1980, how many alarms or keyless entrys do you think I have done? Even if I averaged 1 a week (and I often do 3 or 4 a day) that would still be about 1500....do you really think my logic is flawed?

Oh yeah, and reading that "$30 mod" post, many of the systems have failed. In fact, it seems most have failed in one way or another. Is that just cheap shitty gear, or is it that moisture or unstable voltage has killed the rather fragile electronics in them?

                    Once again, blame the installer.

That $30 mod seems a waist of time if it's just going to crap out. But that's R3V for ya.

                        cheap remote door locks

Have one in my 1991 318is trunk for over a year with no problem. Also sold over ten to my buddy who has installed them with no issues. Yes they are cheap- no doubt. Regarding original post, my 1989 325ix trunk key unlock DOESN'T unlock my doors. So I would think in that case this door luck unit wouldn't work in the trunk. Not sure why my trunk doesn't unlock doors unless some car alarm system that was previously installed (total hack job) breached the wiring scheme of the central lock system.

If the position sensor in the actuator has failed that will do the same thing

So you're saying a should install it into the passesnger side kick panel? (RHD car)

And yes, I did have it coming from the battery...well, pretty much. Coming from the distribution block for my amps.

StereoInstaller: is it better to trigger the motor wires (bu and wt) or the request wires (yl/bu and gn/bu)?
