    Has anyone amplified stock speakers?

I was wondering if stock premium speakers could sound good if I sent them some significant juice and filtered low end out of them?

    Setup 1:

Some Sony HU (already have, not going to change)
Stock speakers + one 4 channel to drive them
Subwoofer sealed against rear firewall firing into the cabin
Single Audiocontrol EQ to tune things where needed.

    Setup 2:

Some Sony HU (already have, not going to change)
Aftermarket components on the front and coaxials on the back + one 4 channel to drive them
Subwoofer sealed against rear firewall firing into the cabin
Single Audiocontrol EQ to tune things where needed.

    Setup 3:

Some Sony HU (already have, not going to change)
Stock speakers with aftermarket crossovers and tweeters on the front + one 4 channel to drive them
Subwoofer sealed against rear firewall firing into the cabin
Single Audiocontrol EQ to tune things where needed.

    I do have (2) 4 channel amps, one 100wrms x 4, another 85wrms x 4.

    What are your thoughts?

This sounds interesting, hope you get some imput, since I have been wondering the same thing for some time. I set up 6x9 in the rear and they don't look pretty, I would actually like to put the original covers back for my IS and put stock size speakers in, that actually have an amplified set up......good luck

I had an Avic N1 going in to a fosgate 500x 4channel and an alpine 250watt v12 amp powering the stock premium speakers and single sealed 12" woofer. It sounded awesome until my headunit was ripped off. Now i have an alpine ida-x001 that does not have crossover functions so i can't dial it in. Sounds good but nowhere near as good as it could be with a x over. It was pretty simple too. All i did was run rca cables to the trunk and used the existing factory amp harness by extending the wires to the amp output and remote on. Very clean and simple install.

You should have took a listen at the torrance meet. e30polak was pretty impressed with the sound quality. Although if i ever were to upgrade i pull a harmon kardon componant system from an old school range rover. I had my rover beaten down the block with a fosgate amp to the factory setup including factory headunit. Sounded way better then the eclipse double din nav, alpine v12 amps, and mb qaurt q speaker setup that i had in my tacoma.
