My brother just bought a 89 325is and his stock sound system blows my stock sound system away (89 325i). I know that he has the premium sound speakers, tweeters, etc. My question is does my 89 325i have the same stock amp as his 89 325is? I see the stock amps for sale and am tempted to buy one. what do you think?
stock amp.

Stock amps suck balls. Any modern deck makes far better power, and likely more, too.
If you are gonna use the stock deck, the factory amp is an option, but if you are going to use an aftermarket deck, just bypass that stock amp alltogether.
Add some premium sound tweeters, though...big help in the highs. -

As you can tell i am not educated in car electronics. I want to keep the look stock, i just added some tweeters and am in the process of getting the premium speakers for the rear deck. I want to remove the old speakers/tweeters but keep the stock look. What can you recommend as an inexpensive upgrade for the...Stock amps suck balls. Matt, you can use just about any aftermarket 4 channel amp with the stock 89+ deck.
If I were looking for that look and were willing to spend the money, I would do a CD43 deck and a decent aftermarket amp on stock premium sound speakers.Comment

The grille is part of the panel, removable by Dremel only.
You can pry the tweeter out carefully from the backside.Comment

Luke - Is there a way to integrate the factory amp with my Panasonic C7413U or do you think it would sound much better than just using the power from the deck? The guys @ bestbuy think we can split up RCA cables and run them to the preamp on the deck to integrate...basically I don't want to spend a bunch of money on an aftermarket amp right now, and I thought a little added power might be nice...sigpic

The Panasonic makes more power than your stock amp, and better quality too.
However, the BMW amp does make a decent paperweight.Comment

OK, so remove and bypass the factory amp...seems pretty straightforward.
Now I need to figure out a good way to mount my sub in the trunk. I want to keep the ski pass-through intact, so I can't mount it right behind the seats. I was thinking of hanging it from the top of the trunk with adequate space for the trunk hinges to still move, and facing the speaker downward. It's one of the compact 10" low profile subs, so it's not very deep. What do you think Luke? Any ideas?sigpic

You need a box for it to sound good, basically. Why don't you want to punch out the ski hole?
I'm not absolutely sure, but I think if you port the box into the cabin, you can get away with leaving the ski hole intact.Comment
