    Gauge problems...

So im installing Prosport oil pressure, oil temp, water temp and boost gauges. I took switched 12v from the window switches. Ground is to the window switch too (cut the wire and noticed i could have gone to the chassis which would have been nicer :( ). The i got 12V with the lights on from the cig lighter light. All the gauges use these spots. Nothing different between the boost gauges and the other three other than the fact that i used chassis for ground w/ the boost and window switch ground w/ the other three.

Got the gauges all hooked up but they seem a little finikey. They glow white in the day time (w/o the headlights on) and amber at night (with the lights on). Sometimes, the boost gauge wont light amber when the lights are turned on. Then while i was taking pics w/ the headlights on i noticed if you touch the brakes, the water temp, oil temp and oil pressure turn on white. hmmmmmmmm. i have some more work to do.

Any ideas? Im mostly wigged out with the brake situation.

Oh and how would i go about getting these to dim with the dash light dimmer?

    Thanks guys

if you want them to dim with the lights you'll want to take their power from the lights that dim instead of the window switch. I used the cigarette lighter for my lower three gauges and then one from behind the gauge cluster. Considering this is the lighting system for the rest of the car it makes more sense than using the window. I found 12 volt switched from behind the cluster somewhere. I think you can use the radio as well but i haven't had my volt meter on it to be sure. There was also a 12volt switched i found on the hazard switch i think. I setup the lighting for the gauges but none of them are active so i haven't powered them yet.

where did you run your wires through the firewall? what gauge wire did you use? i was thinking about 14 or 16.

Under the steering wheel above the pedals theres a big gromet with a few extra spots in it. I used 14 which is probably overkill.

Yeah, im probably going to do exactly what you suggested Doc. Thanks for the input :)

I have a similar problem with my prosport gauge. I also want it to illuminate white during the day and amber at night. I hooked it up to the illumination wire that connects to the head unit. Funny thing is... it does run white during the day, but when i pull the knob to turn on the lights... the first click that turns on the instrument lights and parking lights does in fact switch the gauge to amber. However, when i pull out the knob for the second click to turn on the headlights the gauge switches back to white. SO as of now i'm just running it on amber at all times. Any ideas?
