Need some advice on new audio build

Looking to rebuild my audio for my cab. Here is what I have in mind

    c43 headunit
audio control line level converter probably 6ci
mtx or blaupunkt 4 channel amp
two cross over for the fronts on tweeters and speakers
5.25 front and 6.5 door build - probably references so 4 speakers.
    5.25 rear - 2 speakers

    Considerations
1.) Line level converter? If so do I need the 100 + unit from audio control?
2.) THA475 is that any good? any other people used it before?
3.) would I need more crossovers if I power the front with one 5.25 and one 6.5 with 2 sets of tweeters one at stock location and one with the door pods?
    4.) any other suggestions?

    just FYI -

I want good sound in cabrio, not looking to do something crazy with bass. Just clean mids. Rear speakers I just for show, thou the 6.5 door builds I'm hoping it would help the sound quality with the top down.

    Any help appreciated.

    2. Plenty better options out there.
    3. Are you trying to do 3 way with 2 sets of tweeters? I don't see a need for that, it will be harder to make it all sound right. If you are that itching, do 6.5" woofer, 4" mid and tweeter or if room permits, 8" woofer.

2.) true, but it is on sale now and I'm trying to keep the build under 800

      headunit ~ 100 ish
      amp ~ 150 to 200 ish
      speakers 200 to 300 ish
      Line level converter 100ish

700 ish then I still have to fiberglass the pods so around 800 ish hopefully lower.

3.) I was thinking about 6.5 woofer on the door pods and 5.25 mids in the stock location in the kick panel. Extra tweeter was just an afterthought, cause I think the door pods might look plain with just one hole cut for the 6.5 and nothing more.

The BMW deck does not need any kind of line output converter at all, just RCAs soldered on.

Use the speaker positive as the positive side, then use chassis ground as the negative.

Slightly less output than an Audiocontrol piece, but more like 7VRMS, so way more than any deck ever thought about putting out, even beasts like the Clarion 9255 or the 7909.

If you want a far better amp than that MTX, I have a couple of Exile 4 channel amps that are excellent.

If I were doing that build, I would do a pair of DVC 8" in the doors, a decent set of 4" and tweeters, both in the stock locations, with 5" coaxials in the rear.

You could either build you own crossovers, or use a seperate amp to run the pair of 8".

        Closing SOON!

how much are the exiles? can you give me some model number I can look up and give me some prices?

I think there are two problems with the 8", tell me if I'm wrong. Its a vert so leg room is small as it is, I have corbeau cr1s so if I build anything more than 1 inch off the stock map pocket, I wont even be able to move my seats up and back. Also I think the 8" will look over size for the dingy door and look out of place. I also wanted a bit of a slant towards the back maybe say 15 degrees I think I would run into more problem with 8"s. As all are just speculations. Any solutions and comment welcome.

Man, all you 'vert guys are the same..."that won't fit"..."it's too much moneeeeeey"..."I want it to sound great, but I drive a car with no rooooof"...

Seriously, though, the Exile 600.4 would do a great job for you, but I am not willing to post prices here or anywhere. PM me for a price, but $450 is what I get for them at my shop.

hahaha, if you read my original post it saids I want it ot sound good. I never said great.

Its also quite a mood point between audiophiles and your average joe (me). 450 + for an amp is out of my budget I'm willing to spent, not that I cant afford it, I'm just not that gunho of an audiophile. Again you do it for a living, I play with my car for hobbie. I'm sure your standard is way higher than mine. :)

I do appreciate your suggestions nonetheless. I think I'm going to do 6.5 woofers like mless5 suggested. sounds more like my idea.

Are you cool with picking up used amps?

Do you still have those Eclipse amps? That 5 channel would be terrific if he did some burly 6's in the doors as subs, then stock locations for all other mids/tweets...might actually sound good!

Question is, where ya gonna find a pair of burly 6's?

I think I am gonna do a set of 10's in my doors if I ever get a cabby. The Exiles are only 3.25" deep:

go big on the amp, skimp a lil more on the speakers. mo powa is what ALL speakers need and sound better with. id expand the "budget" a lil and pick up one of lukes amps, ive heard em they are tits. go a lil lower end on the speakers to make up the diff.

Luke, both Eclipses are gone and unfortunately one got damaged in shipping to new owner :( .

Do some search on MPyre woofers.

I sure wish I gave a shit enough to run around to all the different forums and teach these kiddies some real technology. I am too busy working on cars to BS on 50 different forums.

This cat over on some Miata forum is saying that his "footwell subwoofer" will move as much air as 2 10" subs.....uuuuum...BULLSHIT! They would need to move about 4" P2P...um, yeah...the specs show 12mm XMAX. Sorry, Charlie, bad physics.

I would like to read up some on these MPyre subs. Google could not find anything, and I don't have time to search. www.mpyreaudio.com was listed as a link on BF.c, it is a search site full o' popups.

I think they are a derivative of Adire Extrimis. I'm itching to pick them up and use as dedicated midbass, but that would envolve a money pit for door deading.
