    System Resistance Issue

Ok, I decided to order some new speakers for my e36...

The issue lies in my mid-bass setup. In my search I accidentally purchased a pair of 4 ohm speakers and a pair of 8 ohm speakers. Both sets are to be powered by a single 4 channel amp. I do not know how I overlooked this.

Anyway, what would be the easiest way to solve this? both sets are single voice coil, so there is no way to alter the wiring...

Can I simply wire a resistor in with the 4 ohm speakers? I was aiming for 4 ohms, because my amp is rated at 100 watts per channel at 4 ohms... will 8 ohms be to quiet?

Speaker's ratings in ohms is impedance, not resistance. Yes, they use the same unit, but they are two different things.

Not sure how to solve your problem.

You'll be fine as long as long as you put the 4ohm up front and the 8ohm in the rear. Adjust the gain on your amp to get the levels how you want them. You want the rear speakers far quieter than the front speakers anyway.

Doesnt sound like it will be that big of an issue. You should be able to adjust accordingly on the amp like Chris said. Just know that E36's sound like garbage no matter what you put in there.

any car amp will have no problem running at 8ohm. your power will be about half, but 8ohm speakers are usually more sensitive than the 4ohm equivelant, so it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Put whichever speaker where you want.

            have fun.
