WOW - no kidding. I built my motor May 06 and put 25k on it in a year and a half. I had to run the numbers again - I didn't believe I had really put that many on, but I did! hahah

I've got a DXZ675USB in my car, I'm happy for the amount I actually interact with it (it's tucked away in the glovebox so it's kind of set-it-and-forget-it). I mostly only use it for AUX in, but the USB support works satisfactory from the bit I've played with it. Some people complain about a hissing and popping, but I haven't experienced it yet.

This model you provided a link to is actually the newer model.

I've decided to go with the DXZ785USB which is similar to the DXZ585USB but the 785 has the USB port in the back but does come with a cable so you can connect a USB stick or iPod to it discreetly, like in the glove box and can use the HU to control the iPod or to control the titles on the USB stick and it also has 728 selectable colors for the display and buttons, so it can match the BMW amber color.

The unit is Black with White buttons, just like a stock BMW HU, and with the amber display and buttons, it will match the stock HU look, although it may not fit flush with the dash and might stick out a little bit.

Here is a pic with the display and buttons in Blue:

And one in Amber but not as clear of a pic:

Pretty much the same specs as the HU in the OP, but this one is a little more expensive, about $200.00 delivered.

It has a lot of great features, but the best part is the all black with white buttons and amber display/buttons which will match the stock look.

I'm also going to put a BMW sticker/badge over the "Clarion" logo.

          Something like this:

I just hate the way most HU's look nowadays with the silver plastic face/bezel, and silver/red/blue knobs and displays that shows 6 animated colors simultaneously.

          Bling bling - No thanks.

They're all marketed to the F&F crowd and look terrible in an E30

I'll probably order it next week and in the meantime, I need to climb in the trunk and work on bypassing the factory brick, I mean, amp.

Tested one DXZ785USB and liked it for the most part. My friend, with the unit, was using the active crossovers from the deck everything sounded okay. It has a very clear and detailed sound to it, that I remember hearing from eclipse decks. My only qualm was why they only have a 3 band eq when you can go up to 3 way active up front?

Was it in an E30 and if so, how did it look and fit?

It has a lot of nice features and decent specs, but I want something that will look good in the dash as well as being versatile and sounding good.

              Thanks.

Unfortunately it wasn't. It was in a volvo s40.

I haven't been a believer in different HU sounding dramatically different just because of different environments creating different sounds, but there was a Pioneer unit before the the clarion in the buddy's s40 and now it's much clearer.

In the end it's user preference.

A lot of people are describing it like this:

                Eclipse: Sharp, Clear
                Alpine: the medium
                Pioneer: very warm sounding

I would rank the clarion somewhere between the eclipse and alpine. But hell, it all could just be our ears being played on.
