      Pioneer DEH-P4000u.

The USB will allow direct connection of his iPod (or whatever USB device he wants) and high pass filters...then a sub, and no more blown speakers. Just a simple single 12 in a ported box, 200 watts running bass, adn that deck, using cheap-ass whatever speakers...will rock and STAY rocking, no more blown speakers.

The trick is to use high pass filters. No bass to the front or rear speakers means you have to run a sub.

i suggest getting on crutchfield.com and searching for "alpine ipod". alpine has by far the best and fastest iPod interface. i have a sony deck w/ iPod controls and that thing is deathly slow, especially when you're looking for a single song out of 10,000.

If you have not tried Pioneers USB connection for an iPod, you really cannot say that. Yes, the Alpine is terrific, but the USB setup from Pioneer kicks its ass.

i guess i wanted to make the point that not all decks that are iPod compatible are made equal. it's not just about the ability to connect and control an iPod to it, it's about how fast and easy to use it is once it's connected.

i'll take your word for it, seeing as you're stereoinstaller. ;) i'm regurgitating what i've been reading up on, though. what attracts me to alpine primarily is that their newest interface cables are iPhone compatible, meaning you don't get that annoying interference to your music when the phone's GSM radio is on. i'll read up some more on the newer pioneers since my current deck is just not that iPod friendly. thanks for the heads up.

Be warned: the Pioneer decks are cheap. They feel chintzy, I am sure they are the cheapest damn thing Pioneer could build. I have had no issues yet, but who knows...they just seem cheap.

I still like them best in the budget department.

You are absolutely right about iPod functionality being different between different decks. Kenwood blows sack, IMO, as the iPod interface still requires an audio input...how fucking lame is that!

The iPhone works just fine on Pioneers USB too, I don't know about a GSM issue, but it does mute when a call comes in, IIRC. One of my customers did a DEH-P5000u and she loves it.
