    Luke you there?

Wondering if you've done any instals with 8" subs in the trunk. Any pictures?

Once upon a time, I had a custom made 8" sub built by Eminence. I designed them for a Infinite baffle application, meant to be used in a group of 4.

basically, I braced and reinforced the trunk wall using 1/2" and 3/4" MDF, plus another layer of 1/2" for looks and to recess the woofers, then cut the 4 holes in the metal and mounted the woofers.

So yeah, it was a major pain in the ass, but I built several E34s and a couple of E30s like that in the Portland area, using Zapco amps.

These played low, loud and clean, but not enough "boom" for rap, IMO. More of an audiophile application, sounded fantastic on the "Yuppie Jazz" that was so popular in those days.

No pics at all, my house burned down in 1991, so all of the trophies and pictures I had are long gone.

Anyway, a single 8 is so unimpressive these days, I wouldn't even try. I rarely even do a single 10 anymore, although the '37 plymouth I am working on tonight is using a single 10 in 1.4 cubic feet, ported. Sounds excellent, but I better get to work on it!

One 8 in a trunk is not what I am going for, 3 maybe? I listen to all types of music but 70% of what I listen to is drums and guitars. Once in a while when I want my rear view to rattle I'll put in some rap. There is a guy around here with and Audi A4 and he has 8 8's in his trunk, yes he has 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, 8 inch subwoofers and it sounds crisp, clean and clear, not to mention its not your average 1 or 2 10 inch woofers, its just different. I have two cheapo eights Im gonna hook up and see if I can burn em, but I would like to have a good 8 inch set up just so people can hear it then say, "you have what"? What brand do you recommend if I went the 8 inch route? JVC? J/K.

Shit, finding any 8" is tough these days!

If you can find 3 8W6 old school JLs in decent shape, go for it!

Back in the day (when I was 16 in high school; 5 years ago) I had a single 10w6 with a monoblock JL amp and it sounded wonderfully.

Luke, how long has it been since they made 8w6's?

Sound Splinter rli-8. They are a bit pricey, and trying to get one used is some what difficult. They use to be made in the TC sounds assembly line, but TC is bankrupt.

Wonderful little woofers that don't need much of a box and still have quite the impact. I heard one in an ABC box in a trunk car and I was almost positive that it was a single 12".

Right now I have a single 6.5" sub in a ported box in my back seat. Its an elemental designs eu700. Gets loud for what it is, and the excursion just looks ridiculous on the little subwoofer when pushing it. I say go for it, not too many people use smaller woofers.

I am willing to bet the Morel ADMW woofers kick the crap out of the AVI (which are excellent, BTW) and are perfect for infinite baffle installations.
