    New Headunit

I did search and looked at the correct wiring manual for my e30. Most of you that have upgraded the speakers and headunit have the premium sound and I don't. But the wiring manual that I am currently looking at says that I do have an amp in the back. I don't want to use the stock fader and I'm putting in a Blaupunkt London MP37 Headunit. Do I have to run new wires and bypass the stock amp, assuming that I actually have one? Or can I just use the wires that are wired in right now?

    Sorry for the repetitive question.

One of these days I am gonna write a "how to" on this!

OK, man, start off with pulling your left kick panel and speaker.

Look around carefully, you should find a 4 pin plug with 2 yellow and 2 blue wires...all 4 have stripes. IF you find that plug, that is the rear speakers. Cut the wires and extend them to the deck, but run another pair of wires for the left front, too.

Oh yeah, brown stripes are ground on the speaker wires. If you don't know how to test which wires are for speakers, I use a battery to "pop" the speakers...if this means nothing, please, go pay a professional.

Anyway, so now you have 3 pair of speaker wires to the left front, now run a single pair to the right front.

This would be the voice of 28 years of professional installing recommending this course of action...do what you want, it isn't my fucking car, right? But trust me, if you follow what I am telling you, you can do a proper job in an hour or so. OK, maybe 3 hours....go pull that panel!

Popping the speaker just means giving it enough power to make the speaker move a little and see what pairs go to what speaker. This makes wiring the speakers to the right lead off the back of the HU stupidly simple.

Ended up I spent 40 minutes at Frys due to them being stupid and not knowing how to ring up my free ipod cable (half the reason I went, the other half was the deck was on sale) and They decided to install it for free. The guys in the install bay seemed knowledgeable enough to comprehend what I wanted done, along with some "MERC" plaque.
