    Secind Skin Damplifier

so i bought this stuff a year ago and its been sitting in my garage, i'm going to put it in my car this week, where is the best spot for this stuff?

as far as stereo goes in my car i have an alpine head unit with a ipod hookup, and infinity coaxils all around powered by a 4 channel 75 watt apline amp, nothing crazy but it works.

so i have 12 sq ft of this stuff and it says "door pack" so should i just use it for the doors or in the kick panels up front instead and somewhere else?

    thanks in advance!!

    i have the same stuff.

Line your transmission hump, which requires pulling the carpet. Line the inside of the doors. If you have more leftover, line the whole floor.

Get enough of it down and you'll have no road noise or rattle.

Go ahead and read that article: keep in mind there has been no serious evaluation, no measurements, and the guy is not even a professional sound man...just a "hobbiest" trying to offer some help.

Personally, I do NOT recommend covering your entire car in this stuff. It really does not stop sound as much as it stops metal from "ringing".

It works exactly the same to use strips in the center of each panel as it does to cover the entire panel...the job is damping...metal generally does not resonate at the edges.

OP, what is your goal? Are you looking for a quieter ride? If so, attack the source of the noise. Do your wheel wells first, then under the rear seat, then the rear deck/seat back, then the doors.

If you are trying to stop your can from rattling, that is a different discussion entirely...

        yeah....

my car is completely covered in the shit. Doesn't do much for road noise. I'd hit the kick panels thoroughly, even covering the back of the plastic cover, and thats about it, with 12 sq ft.

My car has over 100 sq ft, plus two different second skin liquid products over it, covered by a MLV barrier pad, and I still get too much road noise. I really need to replace those bearings!

If road noise is the real issue, a thorough install of "The Insulator" does amazing things. I have done 6 or 7 cars, but an E30 would be a total bitch to do.

Sound deadning reduces metal from ringing...like when you hit the pause button at high volume and the car resonates for a split second.
