though its an idea, I would scrap it. Your blocking your rear window. Advertising that there is after market speakers. And you will over power your fronts in which when building a system you want your stage in front of you like if you were at a show. I do not even run rear speakers other than a sub that is in the trunk. Not one has ever complained that my car sounded like crap and or was not loud enough. Luke is pretty talented and could lead you better than I. There are many that have posted their setups just dig them up and check them out. Mine included.

I will give you an A for effort for trying something new. But would fail you if you went with that design.

    Good luck!

Edit, pull your back panel and refinish it. If you want rear speakers then put your ports in but recover to hide the holes. Run some mesh on top of the holes and under the new carpet that way the heat will not allow the new carpet to sink in and look like there is a port there!

This is what I made to mount subwoofers to the rear, You could do the same only with 5.25 coaxial speakers

to the OP, that box in the rear window idea is pretty terrible. just cut some sheet metal underneath the rear shelf and mount them on the shelf itself.

thanks for all the input guys. i wasnt sure if having the speakers face upwards against ceiling was gonna lead to bad sound. any other ideas would be great too, as im not quite sure what to go with yet.

They were like that originally. It may have bad sound, but it would be the same as OEM (Or very similar).

just get nice spekers up front with a decent amp. you dont need rears.

Josh, if you really want rear speakers, go take apart the rear side panels and start planning.

Just below the rear side windows.

That is the best place for rears in our cars...same phase angle as the fronts, far better clarity.

                  Closing SOON!

if i chose to go with mids in the back panels, how much room (estimate) is lost in the backseat?

Luke, I know you are probably a master at this so you are the best person to ask?.

Would you happen to have a picture of the speakers installed in the rear side panels, maybe size(dimensions)., on what would fit best and some brands if possible.

                          Thanx in advance

Doesn't sound like you understand. Pull the panels out ( the ones next to the rear seat and below the side window) and cut a hole in it and mount a speaker. With the panel out you will see how much room you have and the best location for your speaker and go buy some that fit. You probably should keep it a little forward in the panel so your rear passengers doesn't block them with their kidneys. Rear speakers are for your rear passenger's enjoyment anyway, right?

Josh, you won't lose any space in the rear seat.

That's where Cabrios mount their rear speakers, anyway.
