ok i know componets have been talked about

i was some componets for the front, also i wan tto know which amp is best for this? is the amp really going to help a great deal if i have the alpine 9827 deck in. also no over killing it, how much power is needed for the speakers, i am going to keep the coax alpines in the back. so also i have the 318is i noticed it is prewired for componts in the front are those going to be decently easy to install myself? anykind of special wireing needed.

    thanks

    Huh?

What kind of speakers are you putting up front? what kind in the back? What is the RMS watt rating on them?

Yeah, we need to know that before any answers.

ok i have ALIPNE SPS130A in the front and back with the deck as mentioned, and i am swapping out the front ones for componet, not sure what kind i want (that is why i am asking you guys and gals which ones are good to get) and if i decide on an amp which one?

Or is it better to get componet in the back as well, is it prewired for that in my 318is?i do know that i have them prewired in the front for the tweeters.

Don't worry about speakers in the rear. I'd actually recommend disconnecting them.

If you get components, you're going to want to get an amp to power them. Rockford Fosgate amps are a good value. You can usually find them at a decent price on eBay and they'll last forever. Make sure you get one that's at least 40x2 RMS @ 4ohms.

Oh, and the fronts aren't prewired at all really, you still have to redo the whole thing.

You can keep the tweeter wiring if you'd like, however, you'll have to rewire the midrange.

Bang for the buck, I would do Infinity Reference seperates. I also do not care for the factory tweet location, too much distance between the mid and tweet. I also do not like to see such a difference in pathlength. I would use an angled mount under the dash (actually attached to the glovebox on the right) aimed up at the driver/passenger near the speaker. Wire them up with a few spare feet of wire and move them around to a few different locations...listen to the difference.

As far as power goes, almost any head unit will run them OK (or any other speaker for that matter), but you will have a far better listening experience if your deck has a high pass filter and you run a subwoofer with them. If you remove the bass at 100Hz and below, whatever amp is running them (deck power included too) will have 400% better headroom.

Headroom is the ability to cleanly produce a signal without distortion. (clipping, technically, but lets be simple here)

Alpines' SPS series are an attempt to make a decent speaker cheap. I have never cared for them myself, but they don't completely suck. Spend your money in the front of the car where you can hear them!
