    new headunit

i just bought a pioneer 6000UB, and previously had some sony aftermarket in there for awhile, when i tried to slide the new unit into the slot, it didnt seem to catch anything in that metal 'cage', my question is are there manufacturer specific mounting 'cages', and where can i get one if there is, cause it just slides around, and the one time i did get it to catch, i had to remove like the whole dash panel just to get it out, those key things in the side didnt work. thanks.

Yes there are brand specific cages. They are pretty difficult to buy by them shelves. I got one from a stereo shop. I went in there and asked and they had one lying around.

        For about $30, sure.

Where the hell did you find a 6000UB used? I hope you didn't pay much.

            I have a 5000, it is excellent.

I would expect the reliability to be shit, but for $60, WGAF, right?

Go to any local car stereo shop. Walk in the SHOP, not the store. Tell the first guy who looks like he should be holding a tool (one NOT in his pants) that you need a "sleeve" for a DEH P6000. Unless, of course, you need a "trim ring", too.

Have 2 $5 bills in your pocket before you walk in. "Tip" appropriately.

i went into one, fuckers charged be 20 bux for it, i do also need the trim ring, but i can wait for that a little bit longer, maybe find a completely dead unit on ebay that comes with the ring for like 99 cents plus shipping, ive seen a couple of the UB pioneer models that were completely dead for like 5 bux, so that might be worth it, or maybe we'll see what my buddies a couple towns over can do for me.

The two levers in the cage are probably sprung. Bend them inward a bit and see if the radio catches before jacking around with the stereo shop or Pioneer CS.

i already bought a pioneer cage from the stereo shop, and the old sony one the levers were fine, it just didnt catch the pioneer. its all good now tho, installed it and it works fine.

Cool. I thought it might be sprung since you said it did catch once.
