    Stereo Installed

Finally got around to installing my stereo stuff. I have had my 6x9 speakers installed for 2 years without ever having had them hooked up. The amp had been quietly sitting in my closet the whole time waiting to be installed. Wait no more.

Yes I know shame on me for installing an amp upside down, I will get a fan for it sooner or later. I am going for a kinda stealth look and hope you all like my paint flaking around my trunk.

I'm a complete i.c.e. noob. I have been searching for a place to attach my new-to-car amplifier and hadn't thought about mounting the amp on a piece of mdf upside down, but I really like that. Is it bad to do that? I also have a crossover that is going in between the amp and the deck. The deck doesn't have powered outputs. So much reading to do.. :(

Well BMW mounted the stock amp upside down in nearly the same place.

A small amp like mine isnt going to hurt anything being mounted upside down. The gain is in the stock position and I rarely turn my stereo up, even after an hour of it being on its barely warm. I really dont think a fan would make my amp even a degree cooler. Now if you wanted to mount a 1000w amp like that you would definately want a fan blowing some air on it.

If the PO hadnt cut my rear firewall out I would have cut a piece of MDF and mounted it to the trunk side of the firewall and mounted my amp there.

The idea is, since the amp is facing upside down, the heat it generates will rise upwards towards the amp instead of away from it, causing it to over heat. I have seen it done this way several times, but most people try to avoid doing it.
