analog clock no worky when tach no worky

    hey folks-

I've had my e30 since february and am finally getting around to figuring out this mystery. about a week after I bought it the tach went out. previous owner said "yah, happens from time to time just bang on the dash." well banging doesn't do squat but it'll randomly back on for a few hours and then go away for a week or so, off and on again.

car also has an analog clock, I noticed that it only works on the rare occasions that the tach is working. mystery!

I have the IP cluster hanging out of the dash but there doesn't seem to be anything obviously loose or ghetto-wired back there, same for the back of the clock... mystery!

oh, and since this is my premier post, I'll attach a pic of my new lovely:

    any thoughts?
