Factory radio removal help needed

I'm trying to locate the serial # so I can get the anti theft code for my new old car, is there a trick to doing this without damage?

You might be able to use a really small allen to get the locks loose on each side of the face (depending on how tight they are and are located behind the little trap door flaps). Might need the special radio lock tool to do it though. The special tool is 5 sided versus a allen being 6 sided. The special tool can be bought through places like www.bavauto.com for $15 or so...

To remove the factory radio, you can make a 5-sided "allen key" fairly easily by filing or grinding the end of a round rod or any similar bit of metal. It does not have to be very accurate to work. I made mine from some old threaded rod I had lying around. This was much more convenient, and cheaper, than waiting a week for the tool to arrive from Bavauto, or booking a service appointment at the stealership.

flag down your local snap-on truck, or you can get the tool from the dealer. They are <$20

Wow...I bin doing it rong!

I use a small flat bladed screwdriver and jam it in there and loosen. Not classy, but gets it out without damage.

or you can go to any walmart and get their $3 screw driver bit set. it's in it. Plenty of use when you're done with it too.
