Fuse 23 keeps blowing after HU install after turning on Headlights

I finally got around to installing my new HU today, and all was well.

I went to leave for a night out tonight and when I turned on my headlights, I lost my rear License Plate light, passenger side tail light, passenger front parking light, passenger side marker lights and dash lights.

It's a 7.5 Amp fuse. I replace the fuse, turned on the headlights and blew the fuse again.

Should I try a higher amperage fuse, or do I need to tear everything apart and start over again?

Can't remember. I just went by the instructions I found here and in the install manual.

Chris, no deck draws more power on the illumination circuit than stock, and HIDs do not affect that circuit...so put a 7.5A back in there.

Back to the OP: Looking at your manual( http://www.wedophones.com/Manuals/BM...g%20Manual.pdf ) I found that the illumination wire is also behind the fader in your car...so look carefully at page 6300-0, you will see the gray/red wire is the only thing that runs anywhere near your radio, so that is likely it. Make sure it is properly connected if your deck calls for an illumination wire, otherwise, make sure it cannot short to ground.

Alright, I'll pull the deck and take a look. I don't think I connected the illumination wire, but I didn't leave it bare. I can't remember what I did with the gray/red for the fader but I believe I bypassed it properly.

Also, I was advised not to connect the Orange Illumination wire from the HU as it uses a different voltage for the Dash Lights. I did cap it off, but was wondering if this is BS or not.

            Thanks for your help.

Grey/red from the fader is dash lights, make sure it is capped.

Orange from your deck goes to grey/red...whoever told you that is a 'tard. Different voltage my ass...all the orange wire will do is dim the face of the deck so it doesn't blind you.

Pop that deck out, I bet that wire is shorted somewhere.

              GL!

Orange from the Deck goes to which Gray/Red?

I'm going to pull the deck today, but I need to know where to connect the Orange wire from the HU to?

Which Gray/Red? Not the one for the fader, but to where?

Also, which wire do you think is shorted? The Orange Illumination wire?

                Thanks.

                  Bingo.

I hate it when guys say "+1"

So bingo is the new +1, and you don't have to use the shift key. One handed.

Orange Illumination wire is now connected to the Gray/Red and all is good.

                    Thanks for all the help.

I just wanted more specifics before I opened things up again and pulled the HU, as it is hard to tuck all those wires in there, along with the pre-amp outputs.

Unit sounds nice, even with the stock speakers. The HU has lot's of features. Pics later. Only negatives are that the display is hard to read during the day in a vert when it's bright and sunny out, even with the Contrast turned all the way down, and the other is that it doesn't sit flush with the dash.

Other positives are that it's Black with White letters, and the display color for the LCD and buttons is adjustable, so I can match it exactly to the BMW Amber.

I wanted something with lot's of features that didn't look like the outside of a Vegas Casino.

It works with my Sansa MP3 players, as well as USB Thumb drives and has an AUX input.
                    Plays burned MP3's too.

Even though it sounds good with the factory speakers, I'm going to replace the rear speakers as they don't sound as good as the front.

BTW, I got it at Fry's on a 1 day sale for $150.00 + $20.00 tax and shipping.
It's usually $250.00 at Fry's and $300.00 at the site linked above.
