Coolant temperature gauge

Mine doesn't work, and I think I know why. The wiring going to the coolant temperature sender is all chopped to hell.







Anyone know what the hell is going on here? Or have a picture of what its supposed to look like?

The black wire I'm holding in the last picture comes out from the same tube that the connector on the front coolant sensor comes from. Is it supposed to be connected to something as well?
