BMW Traffic Pro w/ Premium speakers

I'm going to pull my BMW Traffic Pro H/U from my Z3 and install it in my '91 318i. I also picked up a set of premium speakers to install as well.

    - TP info here: http://www.waycoolinc.com/z3/01/081501/whatistp.html

My question is, will the amp in the TP have enough juice to provide adequate sound to the premium speakers or should I be looking for an amp?

Here are the specs for the TP:

    SPECIFICATIONSWavebands:FM 87.9MHz – 107.9 MHz
    AM 530kHz – 1700kHz
    Frequency range:20Hz – 20kHz for CD operations
    30Hz – 15kHz for FM
    50Hz – 2.5kHz for AM
    Output:4 x 18 WattsLine cross section:0.75mm2 min.Loudspeaker impedance:min. 4 OhmsLine out:4 x analog line out (Va max 3Veff at 10k Ohms)GAL:Speed-dependent volume control; the adjustment is
performed in 8 to 19 steps of 1.25dB, dependent
    on current setting.
    Antenna:Impedance 50 Ohms
AF Telephone Input:Max. input voltage 8V (if interference occurs, a
commercially available 1:1 transmitter should be
    connected into the signal cable).
AUX input:16k Ohms input impedance, max. input voltage 1.7VeffTelephone mute:Low active level < 2 VoltsSupply voltage:12 VoltsPlayable CDs:Playable CDs are standard CD audio format, CDRs and CDRWs. 3-1/2" discs are not playable.

Well, I got Traffic Pro installed. But the premium speakers I bought are blown. So I'm going to replace them. How many ohms are the premiums speakers. I'm going to replace them with some 4 ohm, 45 watt RMS Blaupunkt coaxials in the rear and components in the front. I don't have an amp. Will they be a good substitute for the stock premiums?

Bend me over and fuck me hard, that is EXACTLY what I have been wanting to do. Kind of my dream setup, if you will. I have been looking on the web every now and then for a nice, clean TP unit and have found nothing under $500.

Regarding the swap, I believe the stock amp is strong enough to power the premium speakers. Also, I think premium speakers are 4Ω.

        Yeah the premiums are 4Ω.

So was the traffic pro hard to hook up?

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

"Traffic Pro is still available from Harman/Becker in NJ.
Call Rob in Parts at 201 961 1309 for information or to order,
          For Service call Dan at 201 961 1399 "

THis quote was taken from the Traffic Pro Users page

There is also a Traffic Pro Users group on Yahoo where they come for sale once in a while.

My mechanic hooked it up for me. There where some trials and tribulations but mostly because of the bluetooth I added to it.

Yeah, I have seen that Yahoo user group thing. They one I want is the Harmon/Kardon TrafficPro with amber backlighting (like yours.) The one they still currently is the Becker with the green backlighting like the one below.

Wouldn't match very well at all.

4 ohm on the stock premiums.
I have a set of premium speakers if you are interested. Working ones.

Are you sure the ones you have are blown? If you are not pushing them with enough power they'll sound crappy. I'd imagine the TP would sound good but not sure.

I have a small 35x2 amp if you want one as well. Nice clean power to the fronts...

Can someone enlighten me on what these "Traffic Pro" devices do, and how they work?

It's basically just a DIN navigation system made by Harmon/Kardon and Becker that look very OE. In E34's, E36's, etc. they fit right in with no fuss. Harmon/Kardon had one that read BMW on the face and would display BMW at startup, I think it was only used in the Z3's, very desireable though.

If you can locate one with all navigation CD's and a fairly recent firmware version, it will likely fetch between $300-450.

BTW, there is one on eBay (not one that displays BMW) with a light scratch on the front fascia for $200 with free shipping.

OK, thanks. Is it GPS based or do you tell it mile markers or something?
