Stereo has my clawing at my ears!

I was wondering what my problem might be. At first it was just a thumping that turned into a squeal and then would go away after a short period of time. Now its a continuous thumping that turns into a squeal that NEVER goes away. I knew it would have to be dealt with, I'm just stating the symptoms.

I'd like to know what I should do. I'm picking up a CD43 for quite cheap and would like to do AUX for my zune if possible and some speakers/tweeters and MAYBE an amp but no sub yet. My car is used for autox sometimes and I'd rather not deal with the sub.

I'd also like to state that I am terrible with audio/electronics in a car (frustration from tight areas) and I'd probably be going to a shop for the work but I'd like to hear your recommendations on what to buy ie speakers, tweeters, amp and rewiring (RCA?).

*Edit* I forgot to mention that the thumping/squealing was coming from what I thought to be the front right tweeter. After disconnecting it I found it to be every other speaker starting in a clockwise order starting at the right going down to the rear and then up the left side.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

      TTT!

So is this a really obvious problem that I should know how to fix or is this some weird thing that you guys haven't heard of and are kind of doing this when you read?

        BUMP for your frustration

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

Ben, I don't know how I missed your thread. You sound frustrated as hell, but the bad news is you are fucked.

Basically, whatever amp is running your speakers is trash.

Whether that amp is in your head unit, the factory amp or an aftermarket amp, something is doo-doo.

Basically, you have an unstable power supply and would not likely be worth fixing.

So, CD43 huh? Find out what car it is actually meant for, year and model. I will be glad to suggest stuff...but you know I wanna see you running a sub, right?

Go figure out what is currently in your car, as far as amplifier/deck/etc.

            Post it up!

            Luke

              Woohoo the gods have spoken!

Right now I was running stock everything. So the fact that I have to trash some stuff doesn't really bother me.

The CD43 is out of a 99 z3 I can check to be sure but I'm pretty sure thats what he said.

              Thanks again for replying!

99 Z3 huh? Good news. AUX in not a problem, Direct connect iPod with somewhat of a control system too, even a steering wheel control if you have the time/money/inclination.

So yeah, the factory amp has shit the bed. The CD43 generally likes to use an aftermarket amp. I am sure you have seen the details of how and why to do that. The last CD43 I did had HUGE output levels though, and likely would have issues connected directly to an amp.

So Ben, what is your car, which factory deck do you have, and do you have a fader on the dash?

I've got premium sound but I don't have the fader in the dash (assuming you mean the switch that goes near the hazards) nor do I think I've seen the factory amp in the rear. So it is just the HU powering the tweeters and speakers.

I'd just like some decent quality sound with the ability to play my through my Zune if wanted. New speakers, tweeters and amps are fine but for now I'd still like to stay away from one of your amazing looking sub boxes because of said autox. Plus its super easy to hide bodies in the back of the trunk.

So your stock deck has the fader in it?

You need to replace that factory amp to see if it fixes the problem.

I bet it does, then the CD43 is a simple swap.

I'll snap some pictures of it all so you can see I don't think I have the stock amp at all.

As you can see I've got no fader "button" but just the stock stereo for everything (power and controls).

IR slider deck is what that is generally called.

Inappropriate for those of us with fat fingers.

                        Where is that amp shot?

I don't believe I have one anywhere, I checked in the trunk but I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist. If you know of a spot tell me please and I'll recheck.

Stock amp is under the left rear side panel, in the trunk, behind the brace that holds the antenna.

Wow! I installed z3/4 antenna a while back and never even noticed that was there! I don't have a camera here at school so no pictures of that (unless really needed). Little box that looks as if it were impossible to get at unless all wall surfaces in trunk were taken out.
