how much volume is in the spare well?

I'm thinking of a image dynamics IDQ 15" or RE audio 15" in the spare tire well for my touring.

I'd rather not raise the floor, but i might if i need to.

the IDQ needs 1.1-1.75 cubic feet and i'm leaning towards that since i really liked the IDMAX that i have.

I've always wanted a 15 or 18 and with the touring, i won't have to worry about the sealed trunk crap of the regular E30's.

I'm in the states at the moment so i don't have an E30 off hand to measure.

Should be something like 1.45 to 1.5 cubic feet IIRC.

        enough.

I fit a 1 cu. ft. square box in the spare well no problem,

If i were you, i'd chop out the whole tire well anyways.

I'd cut it out + a little more to the drivers side since its offset, and replace it with a shallower, but larger, rectangle tub.

              Two 10" or 12" > one 15"

Andy built a 10 sided box. We came in at 1.92, gross volume.

no cutting, that's big dreaming you've got there, and i'm on a budget/weekend project.

In my old E30 M3 at any given time i've had

                    3 old school JL 12W6's

                    1 polk momo 12

                    2 12 inch alumapro alchemy's

3 10 inch arc audio subs

                    1 12 inch imadge dynamic's IDMAX

                    this time i'd like to try a 15. I know 2 12's is better, i've done that. i'd like to try 1 15.

Luke - 1.92 eh? that's almost large enough for a ported enclosure... hmmm. do you think the E34 spare well is larger than the E30 one? I was actually going to copy your 10 sided box. I tried fiberglass once before, but it was my first atempt and a major fail! haha.

edit: oh yeah, update that thread!

That was an E34 touring, second in 2 months I have done.

Actually, Andy did 90% of that install, including the box build.

I mostly did the front mids...which took me about 10 hours of thinking and 3 or 4 hours of work.

You should hear the fucking midbass...best "thwack" of any E34 I have ever done.

Be careful, idq is a totally different beast compared to idmax.

IDq is a pile of shit, IMO.

Stamped steel basket, cheap 2" or 2.5" voice coil, single magnet...should be $120, max.

Exile has a new SQ 15". Beast of a woofer, but $700 retail is just too damn much IMO.

I do like the 2 ohm DVC setup. 1 ohm monoblock or a 2 channel on a single woofer...nice.

To each his own, but I hated muddiness of idmax compared to idq. I personally care about sound more than anything else. I'd love to hear one of your boxes though Luke.

My big bitch is no listing of Moving Mass (mm) so no idea of what the "unsprung weight" would be.

that is the #1 cause of muddy bass, no doubt the idmax is muddier than the idq.
