Also running my sub without porting to the cabin. It's pointing outward toward the back of the car and it sounds and feels great. The cone also jumps a good inch from the box. :D

I will have skihole and both rear mids out, but will experiment progressively, then with sub orientation/placement within trunk itself...

In terms of pressure waves, it just won't matter much. Might gain 1 or 2db, basically a change not audible to 99% of the population.
The biggest improvement would be the drop in SPL of the mids/highs, which the car would lose about 6db of midrange, but the audible difference would be bigger than that, since it would (logically enough) bring the stage forward radically...so it would seem like a huge improvement, but in reality, a tiny change.

Next step: Dynamat.

I am gonna chop the roof off of a spare E30 at Joe Funks shop...if he ever finds one without a crushed roof.
Then, I am gonna make a new headliner out of E36 or E34 parts, and reupholster it.
THEN, I am gonna take the entire sunroof cartridge out of my car and re-enforce the roof, and reinstall all the crap I built for it.
Estimated completion: 2/2012...just before R3Vpocalipse

wow.
Don't set anything on the rear shelf, it'll get swallowed by the tubes.
Try this for a rattle: My wife's car was rattling and i found a handfull of change that had rolled into the underseat OEM Subwoofer!

One more showing the top of the port tubes:
Keep in mind that this will make better (and more) bass on 1/10th the power.

1 12" Exile sub on 600 watts in an ultra high tech box.
The port tubes are almost 30" long, to achieve the tuning frequency that gives me bass below 20Hz, yet achieves about 115db with 1 watt, in my car.

Trunk rattles are easy.
My roof moves a good 1.5"...try fixing that rattle!
