go Alpine for the head unit! I just got an Alpine ida-x200. It's great if you are using an ipod as it doesn't take cdsComment

I actually really like both the IDA-X100 and 200.
My only gripe is that the sound is "darker"...not muffled, but I prefer a brighter sound.
Excellent performance with a portable hard drive, too. I tried a 60GB 2.5" IDE in a cheap-o housing, formatted FAT32, worked far better than on my Pioneer.
I suppose my biggest complaint is why the hell Alpine made these using a normal depth unit. they could have shrunk the damn thing to half its depth easily, buuuuuut, oh no, not Alpine.
I really do think the hate installers.Comment

"darker" as in more low sounding? I myself prefer brighter sound, but in my car I have some cheap kenwon't on stock speakers, and for xmas my girlfriend got me the ida-x200 and a pair of energy speakers for the fronts(they are too deep for my rear), so I'm stoked for it, hopefully I'll see a big upgrade. I also have a sub and im going to custom make a box to fit properly under the top in the trunk, I may PM you if I have a little question or 2.
my question is how hard is the x200 to install? is it pretty straight forward? It'll be my first headunit install(my step father used to do this all the time and will give me a hand, but it's been a while since he's done it)Comment

Alpine recommends a hard drive housing with a separate power supply, and you cannot use a USB hub. I found a $10 housing at radio Shack, and a cigarette lighter to USB charging adapter that worked great for a while. Now the housing is dead and cannot seem to find another quite like it.
I have not looked very hard though.Comment

Make the snow go away so I can go buy shit to make the woodshop and then make boxes?
I wonder of my buddy would rent me a spare stall for 2 weeks...I get so many requests these days!Comment

Normally I'd go that route, but I just installed one of these, It sounds great and the price is right, looks at home in the e30 dash too.

This place is like catholic school, 2/3 of the students smoke weed on a daily basis, but the faculty seems to convince the outside world that drugs are just in the other schools, the resident pot dealer thinks he's cool because he has the originality to call anyone he doesn't like a homosexual, and most of the little children follow him like sheep, then there's the few with brains, you hardly ever hear from them, perhaps don't even know they exist, but they get all the sh!t done.Comment
