    Sony Xplod subs

    Hey guys.

I just bought a sony xplod set from this guy on craigslist. It was $250 for a pair of subs, amp and deck. All sony Xplod. The subs are 1200 watt and the amp is 1000. I don't really know too much about car audio but my friend told me they have too much power for my little car. Does anyone have any experience with these? they fit in the trunk with minimal trunk space left. I haven't installed them yet because i gotta take it in to get the deck installed. Are they crap? did i waste my money or am i gonna be knocking?

Depends on what you're after. Some people like sick bass and rattling panels. I don't. One sub would be enough for me. And from what I hear, xplods are not for good quality as much as loudness, so once again, depends on what you're after.

thats a little disappointing. i guess i should have done some more research instead of being so impulsive. i want it to have some nice bass, but i defiantly didn't want to lower the sound quality in the process.

One of those subs in one of my boxes will knock your socks off with both clarity and output.

I have done that exact same woofer many times before.

The single most important thing is the box. Second most important thing is the amp. Quality over quantity any day.

And let R3V help you install your deck yourself. $30 in tools and materials will get you more knowledge. It takes a good 3 hours for a beginner, but you will learn so much, its worth it.

Go to Home Depot and buy a set of ChannelLock "The Crimper" (model 909) and a basic testlight (auto parts store for that). You will need about 40 feet of normal 16 or 18 ga speaker wire and about 20 small red "butt" connectors, plus a normal (like in a smoke detector) 9V battery.

You will need the crimpers for all kinds of shit in your E30 anyway, so why not get them?

Do NOT cheap out and buy crappy ones, you will be dissapointed later.

realistically, with the box they are in they won't be TOO loud. That amp is NOT 1000 true watts if it's a Sony...I would imagine that Lukes box will sound MUCH cleaner and be a similar volume level. Go that route, hook it up to that amp you bought and you have a spare if you ever blow it.

Well hell yes, install them, even if it isn't perfect, it will still be fun.
