Relocating front speakers in a cabrio...

I was wondering if it was possible to put speakers in the doors in a cabrio, in the area under the wing window.

It seems the cabrio has more room in there.

I'd have to remove the door panel which is easy, but was wondering if anyone has relocated their front footwell speakers to their doors?

I've replaced the HU, rear speakers and am adding a subwoofer, but would like a little better sound from the front and relocating the speakers, whether stock or aftermarket would improve the sound.

Relocating your speakers to the doors will make a dramatic difference in sound. I have done this a couple times on coupes, but the cabbie doors are probably gonna be easier.

Post up some pics when you are done.

use the door pocket, add 5.25's or 6.5's components tilted towards you.

I'm planning on doing something very similar to this:

Not my photo, it's from a member here. I want it to look factory. I'm going with JL Audio 6.5's with the tweeter in the factory pod and the crossover in the stock 5.25" location.

Lyle, I thought you car was a late model?

If it is, there is no need to build those silly pocket wasters, as plenty of 6.5" mids fit with only a hole cut. Early models have issues with door fitment, that is why Jordan built those pods...which he never used.

It just seems more factory looking to me...I dunno, I'll contemplate it. I don't use the pockets anyway.

Are the stock premium speakers on an 88 cab 5.25"?

For now, I would just like to move those below the wing window and use some generic speaker grilles.

I think the stock fronts sound decent. I have upgraded the rear speakers and am adding a low profile, powered sub.

I just want to put the stock fronts where they can be better heard.

The wing windows are the front side windows on cabs that are stationary.

Old school cars had them, but you could roll them down or tilt them inwards so they would control air flow towards you.

I would love to mod mine to do the same.

The electric powered one's were pimp.

When I get my subwoofer, I'll pull my door panels and see if I can move the front speakers into my doors, below the wing windows. I have some 5.25" speaker grilles I can use and the stock fronts sound good enough although on cabby's, replacing the rear speakers is recommended as they are awful.

I used some cheap $30.00 Blaupunkt speakers in the back and they sound 2x better then stock. Those will eventually get upgraded as well.

Let me know if you get anywhere with this, that would be sweet to adjust those windows.
I'd have to dump the cupholders that are hanging there though.

I've never seen them modded for E30 cabby's and probably never will as it would require a lot of work, but it would be slick.

I remember cars from the 60's that had power wing windows that would go up/down and some that would swing in/out.

They stopped making them because it made it easier to break into cars.

A butterknife could open up the locking mechanism, then you just reach in and unlock the door.
