would 8" midbasses fit in front doors?

i know 6.5s fit (late model doors), but would 8" fit? what is the mounting depth in the doors? hard to find shallow-mount 6.5s let alone 8s...

I was thinking of keeping the stock midrange and tweeter (prem) locations (using infinity drivers), and adding a pair of subs in the doors as midbasses, with my 12" sub in the trunk. thinking 20-80hz trunk, 80-250 doors, 250+ stock (premium) locations...

Barring being able to find a really thin 8" sub, that can work withut a box, I doubt it. When that window comes down, you really lose space. Pull the door skins off and measure it, maybe you can find a driver to work...

That being said, I am a firm beliver in the KISS principles... keep it simple. The more drivers you add, the more issues you may have with sound fields and timing of sounds... Could you build small enclosures for the 6" to get more bass out of them, as an alternative?

Most 6" drivers would need such a huge box to make anything below 150Hz that it is just not worth it.

I have done the old Polk "MOMO" 6.5" in the doors of a late model. Those are like 3.75" depth or some shit...HUGE by todays standards. The Pioneer thin 8" would fit, it is like 2.75" depth...but is also about a 7" cylinder, basically.

HSL made an awesome 8" midbass about 10 years ago. See if you can find a set of those.
