I just bought this car(87 325es) about 2 weeks ago and I am finding some interesting electrical problems. First about 4 fuses were blown and some were missing. those included the blinkers, air conditioning and a few others.
I replaced all the blown and missing fuses according to the manual.
When I use the left or right blinker or the hazards, I get a loud buzzing noise. When I use the defroster, I also get a loud buzzing noise.
I tried to diagnose the blinkers by unplugging the 4 blinkers from their bulbs. Still buzzing, I then took out the back light panels in the trunk, still buzzing. So at one point i had no blinkers plugged into their bulbs, and it would still buzz. I then pulled out the switch for the hazard lights, still buzzed. I also did a visual check of all the blinkers to make sure there wasn't anything obvious.
I read in other forums that buzzing is a sign of a short somewhere.
There are some known modifications on this car that might be effecting the issue. First the guy removed the ac and wiper fluid container for weight reduction which leaves wires behind. He then switched out the ecu for an unknown ecu for performance reasons. He also upgraded the headlights to HID which requires wiring. Lastly he upgraded to 0.9mm Large Spark Plug Wires.
Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.
