    Help on a custom box...

    Shopping list:

    2x JL Audio 13W3V3 2Ohm 13.5” subs

2x JL Audio VR525-CSi (5.25” mids pair, .75” tweeters pair)

    1x Profile AP2000 (480W RMS x 2 @ 2Ohms)

    2x Profile AP1040 (80W RMS x 4 @ 4Ohms)

    1x Pioneer DEH-P6000UB

Any help box wise? I'm stuck, looked at the JL site and got dimensions for their recommended boxes but there's probably better. Oh, and more powerful amp? Or is the AP2000 enough? Cuz I was thinking of running two AP1500s 650W RMS amps, one for each sub.

The power of that amp is plenty, don't worry about that.

As for the box, Luke is the expert but I think you'll end up with a sealed box due to the size requirements JL mentions. Use whatever dimensions fit your space but go with their recommended volume or a bit larger and you'll be fine.

Thanks. I don't really care about trunk space so ported wouldn't bother me. 480rms per sub would be enough? I thought it was better to have the amp slightly more powerful than the subs need?

well, it would be 480rms just for one sub, you are going to need 1200rms for an amp if you really want to take advantage of your subs. This is what you are going to need: http://www.etronics.com/p-88394-ecli...s-d-1500w.aspx

The specs are on that site too. That will push all of the power that you need out of those subs. It's pricey, but that's what you are going to need to push out 600 rms. I looked a little online to find the best price for you and that's the cheapest I found. You might be able to find it cheaper. You should check on Craigslist and Ebay too.

Here's a cheaper one that will be a little underrated, but it is Alpine: http://www.google.com/products/catal...ult#ps-sellers

Here's another one that is JL Audio that matches perfectly and is $349.00 at the cheapest place I found: http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com/g-max.aspx

As for your box, here's what I found: http://www.crutchfield.com/learn/lea..._building.html

There's a whole bunch of other shit on that site too about boxes.

Idk I'm not trying to do too much work figuring dimensions on a box but I'd like to assemble it. I've heard a lot about Luke's boxes so I think I may order one from him straight up instead of using what little time I have guesstimating.

whatever size you make it, dont for get the three most important words for high-power boxes: bracing, bracing, bracing! :P

i use both dowel rods and triangular pieces to tie walls together and eliminate resonances. Another thing to increase SQ is to avoid making a "box" at all, meaning to angle the walls to avoid standing waves. if you go sealed, you can also accomplish this by making the box a bit smaller than recommended and stuff it (loosely) with poly fill (gut a pillow) or fiberglass (home insulation)...

finally, even if you make a vented box it is absolutely critical to SEAL the box and the woofer against the baffle. with that much power you might even make a double-thick baffle with two pieces of .75" MDF glued and screwed together... I know luke doesnt like screws but i always use them (you have to pre-drill the holes for good results) along with adhesive silicone (the kind that stays flexible) in the joints.
