critique my plans for revamping stereo system

I have 2 E30's, one is more of a daily driver (318is) and the other is more of a fun/toy car (325es). The 318is has the basic stereo system, whereas the 325es has the premium system. I've already taken out the amp.

I'm planning on using the Alpine CDE-9874 head unit.. maybe in both cars

I'm going to move my premium system setup from the 325es into the 318is, add a 10" subwoofer in a sealed box to the 318is, and add a small amp for the components and another amp for the sub.

Then I'm going to add some 6.5 or 6x9's to the 325es and add a small amp to drive it all. The point being is I want to listen to music in the 325es with a little bass.

I'm on a tight budget for everything, so I don't have problems going with used amps and speakers, and making my own box.

Why not just put some 5.25" components in the 325es and avoid any modifications?

would the 5.25" components have bass? The stereo got stolen from my 325es, but I was using a cheap Sony head unit with the premium speakers and there was NO bass at all... I just want a little bit.

And by modification, I assume you mean the rear parcel? Cutting and drilling shouldn't be too much of a hassle

So you're just wanting to upgrade the rears then? 6.5" wont fit in the front without modification.

upgrade both, but put 6.5" in the back. Of course, I could just leave the premium system in the 325es and upgrade the speakers in the 318is.

You're not going to get much increase in bass by adding 6.5"s to the rear deck. Amplification is going to make a big difference in bass performance.

would it be enough to not put in a sub? I'm thinking about how much of a pain in the ass this will be and to leave the premium speakers in my 325es while upgrading the speakers in my 318is

get another set of premium sound for your 318is. It shouldnt be expensive. keep the premium sound for the es, and build a box and get a single 12 or 10 just call it a day and blast it through the ski hole. It shouldnt cost you more than 100 bucks.
