would a bad alternator diode cause high pitch whistling noise in the stereo and make the amp overheat ?
I just bought a nice '89 is a couple weeks ago (my second e30) love the car but the stereo overheats after about 45 mins of listening to it
basically you can hear the speakers start breaking up bass goes first then the volume goes away and i have to let it cool down.
please excuse my lack of clarity here i actually haven't checked what the rear speakers are yet lol but they are 6x9's the headunit is a 4x50w jvc with no extra amplifiers its running the stock speakers up front and both tweeters are blown as well as the left drivers 6 incher. of course i never noticed any of this when i test drove it grrr.
the alt is putting out 13.8volts but im getting between 15 and 30 volts of ac meaning i have a bad diode or two, also the head lights dim alot more than i think they should with the heater blower on max makes me think the alt isn't putting out the current it should.
so is the alternator related to the amp overheating?
