    Recommended Driver/Amp for 1.6cuft box?

Have some limitations on box so total size can be about 1.6cuft and woofer diameter is max 10".

I'm considering either a ported or bandpass enclosure.

Need some recommendations on 10" drivers that work well in one or the other (ported or bandpass, or both). Must have excellent power handling and sq. Will be driven hard to get bass into the cabin.

Also need some recommendations on amplifiers.

While I don't want to spend thousands, cost is not a huge issue.

    Thanks guys!!

The point of ported is not to drive the speaker hard with lots of power , yet provide same, but in most instances more output that sealed enclosures.

And why are you looking at bandpass?

How do you plan on getting bass into the cabin?

P.S. Shameless plug: I will be selling my idq10 soon.

You're right - ported does give you more low end extension with less power. However given this is a vert, "less" is relative. So while it may need less power than a sealed enclosure, it's still going to be driven harder when compared to the same application in a non-vert.

Considering bandpass as an alternative because the sound is coming from the port. In the event I go bandpass, I will get the sound into the cabin through the use of an external port (the port is physically outside the box, not within it) routed through the double trunk wall in the vert and into the seatbelt holder in the back seat.

Anybody have suggestions on my original questions?

2 JL Audio 10w6v2's will work well in a 1.5cf ported box and meet your requirements...1000/1 or equivalant 1000w rms amp.

1 10w3v3 would go into a 1.25 cf box and only require 300-500watts, so a 500/1 would work well. 1 w6 would also work and would only be a .75cf box (duh).

Depends on how much bass you want and how much you want to spend. Of course there are many more options but I just happened to be going through JL stuff (buying some myself), so there you go.

With that said, I'd recommend a 4th order bandpass for your vert...and that is way more complicated to calculate, but start here: http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=27

It looks like 2 8w7's would work well in that space w/a 4th order bandpass....I might try 1, see how it sounds (I'll have 300rms to play with, can't run 2). Originally I was going to try 2 10w0v2 or 10w1v2, but they want a huge box...

With all of that said, 4th orders are extremely difficult to get right. They can have all sorts of issues...standing waves, ripples, whistling, etc etc...they can sound like shit if they are done wrong...so in the end, I recommend getting one from Luke if we ever can manage to get together and get them designed and built.

        Anyways, I'm rambling.

Thanks... good information. I'm trying to stick with at least 10's thinking that they'll outperform 8's , but if the 8's work - why not. Will look more into the link that you posted. I've also been playing with winisd.

btw - I've heard the 10w0/10w1 are not great.

I'm pretty impressed with the w1's, the w0's are too new to have an opinion...we've put them in 4 cars thus far with me around and they've sounded decent. The w1's are damn loud. Sound quality is decent, they are ugly, but they are definitely loud for the price and wattage. We did 3 in a sealed box in an MR2 and it was SO goddamn loud, it was ridiculous.
