    McIntosh?

    Let's say I had momentarily taken leave of my senses: will McIntosh's 5.25 components fit under the premium speaker covers, front and rear? The MX406 would even be period appropriate...

    As long as nothing protrudes out the front of it they should fit fine.

      You can't buy McIntosh stuff and then stick them in the crappy stock location. Just don't do it. Make some custom pods so you can actually benefit from the quality of the speakers.

        I will readily agree with you, but how would one go about doing that? The stock premium tweeter locations aren't bad, I think... as to the mids (no, a 5.25" will never be a woofer)... where to put them? I hateloathecannotbear the grilleinthedoor look.
