    Rear Defog fan on:

I heard that when the hard top on a vert is installed, the rear fan shouldn't be operable when the defog button is pressed in. I can hear the fan turn on with my hard top and I don't believe the glass window defroster is doing anything.

Could someone perhaps explain what is happening please?

    thank you. Ernie

Anytime the defog button is pushed, power should be going to the hardtop mounts. Prob a broken wire or dirty contact there.

As far as the fan coming on, check that little microswitch on the frame in the boot. That should turn it off if the top is down.

when I had the hard top off I did notice the rear defog was connected to the posts. So it is possible those are crusty or maybe broken. I suppose because of this problem, the situation is similar to the light issue? I figure since the power is interrupted to the wires in the hard top the defrost fan doesn't know a hard top is there to by pass the fan?

Dave, where exactly is that micro switch located. I do have the rear seats out just so you know.

Sorry to bump an old thread but can anyone confirm if a switch turns off the rear defrost or of it is the presence (completed circuit) from the hardtop that turns of the rear defrost. I had a chance to test mine last night for the first time and found the same situation as the OP. Rear fan turned on and no defrost on rear hardtop window.

When the soft top retracts into the cabin the frame presses down on a micro switch which disables the rear fan. interrupting the circuit.(switch on drivers side inside the soft top cabin) the hard top defrost wires are connected to the body. I would say the circuit closed to the switch and open to the hard top.

I simply adjusted the micro switch and it fixed the problem.
