      Having driven both a good amount, I'd say you're fine either way. Unless you're really looking for that extra bit of power than the M42 is a fine engine. Less to worry about with it maintenance wise anyway. (Chain vs Belt, no valve adjustments, etc.)

      Like someone else said, verts are slow and meant to cruise in. You'll be looking at boost or swaps when you decide you need to go faster.

        They only made ~4k 318 convertibles for north america. They only made a few because nobody wanted a smaller motor in a cruiser. BMW and inline sixes go together, get an M20 car.
        Drive it hard. Maintain it well.
