I recently replaced the handle for my manual top. However after reinstalling it only the driver side latch on the deck lid will latch shut. I've tried adjusting the cable in both directions but I can't seem to get it to latch. Any suggestions or points I might be missing?

So assuming that's not the case, either the hook on the cover isn't pushing down on the latch far enough to engage it, which means something on the cover isn't adjusted right or else something's in the way; or it means the latch mechanism is somehow frozen shut. With the cover open you should be able to push on the latch into the locked position with a screwdriver. If it will latch, then it's the first issue.'89 lachssilber vert - Frau Blücher

agreed ^^
make sure that the latch works properly while you can see all parts moving. it becomes obvious where to push - to trigger the latch with a screw driver.
it is possible that your cables have broken sheathing. this is just like the brakes on a bicycle. if the sheathing is broken, the cable will just move at that point and it will not pull "against" the sheathing to actuate the latch.
perhaps the cable is twisted or not hooked up properly to the new handle - and it is being held in the open position?

Oh lol I read it wrong. Check that your top folds into the compartment all the way? Mine sometimes sticks up which prevents the cover from latch on both sides and I have to figure out why it won't want to go in.
I guess now you have an excuse to get those tension straps put in!
