Right turn signal triggers brake light warning

I notice this happens when I'm driving home at night on the freeway. Pretty consistently when I put on my blinker to change lanes to get off the freeway, the blinker immediately triggers the brake light warning "check". I'm never braking when this happens. Any thoughts or pointers as to where to start would be appreciated. I am very novice electrically.

Sounds like a frayed wire. Time to break out the digital multimer
