91 E30 top not working and broken cables/ missing release latch/cable

91 E30 top not working and broken cables/ missing release latch/cable. I press the button and I don't hear anything in the motor. What is the easiest way to release the cover for the storage area?

If you have a power top: once you remove the trunk liner below your finger in the pic. you'll see the bonnet motor to the right. there is a handle you pull down on or away - cant remember but that will release the motor to drop away from the body. That allows the bonnet cover to be disconnected from the motor. There is only one latch holding the bonnet down in the center of the body.

If you have a manual top. you will need to take the left said panel out where the speaker is. remove the necessary screws etc to pull the panel away. get a light and look inside for any sign of broken cable. You may or may not be able to grab onto it and pull it to release the one latch. There should be two cables. one for each side. When you've managed to release the latch the bonnet will pop up slightly. under the left side of the bonnet you have a secondary latch which you can pull back with your finger to release the bonnet completely. lift the bonnet. Then go from there to source the parts you are missing.

I happen to have all that you need for a manual top conversion.

    pm if he needed.
