So another full day of e30 work has come and gone, and I have a car that runs like shit.
While the fallowing DIY is maybe a 4/10 in difficulty, it become sa 10/10 when you consider you have to tune it yourself, I am currently working on establishing a tune that actually works well with this system, but I am a total noob at tunerPro and tuning in general so this may take some time. UNLESS YOU ALREADY HAVE A TUNE, KNOW SOMEONE WHO CAN TUNE, OR KNOW HOW TO TUNE YOURSELF DONT EVEN START THIS.
DISCLAIMER: IF YOU FUCK UP YOUR CAR ITS ON YOU!
DIY: Volvo MAF Conversion
PARTS LIST:
-Volvo MAF (PN 0 280 217 107(1 275 749))
-5 Minute epoxy
-MAF harness
-e30 AFM (any model or size)
Original source
1. Pull the AFM and filter assembly out of the car

2. remove the filter
3. Time to open the AFM
-we need the plug and the temp sensor
-take out the 4 screws (phillips) in the plug
-the top cover is glued on - use a knife/screwdriver to get it loose

-disconnect the plug and set it aside
3. Get temp sensor
- we have to remove the slide plate from inside the AFM (top plate)

-drill out these studs and pull it out

4. Now that we have the parts from teh AFM we can wire the harness
Volvo MAF
1=ground
2=ground
3=12v source from modded ecu
4=0-5v sensor output to ECU
BMW AFM
1=temp sensor signal
2=signal 0-5v to ecu
3=12v source from modded ecu
4=ground temp sensor and ground for MAF
The plugs have numbers on them.
a pictoral representation we are doing

MAF wires

Brown/green and brown/white go to ground
white goes to pin 2 on AFM (this is our signal wire)
solid green goes to +12V switch (i used the underwood connection separably- ignition wire)

ignition wire

connection to BMW AFM plug

5. putting in the air temp sensor
-drill a hole and epoxy it in.

6. Plug it up and put it in/
and your done.
DIY: AEM UEGO Wideband install
PARTS:
-AEM Wideband
-wire taps
1. push the wire through the grommet into the cabin - it will come in right at the top of the glovebox from inside

2. use the radio wires to tap switched +12v and ground

3. Put guage where ever you want.
DIY: Moates.net Ostrich 2.0 install
PARTS:
-Ostrich 2.0 Emulator
-Laptop
1. Remove the ECU
-undo the straps on the glove box
-remove the black panel at the top
--2 phillips head screwsin front
--two black twisty things one on each side in the back

2. Open the back cover
-use pliers or a screwdriver

3. Remove the chip
-pull it out

4. Put in the new chip
-press it in

5. modify case
-I used tin snips and pliers to bend the box around the cable.
-use some double sided tape to hold it in place.

6.reinstall and use.
