E30 13-button OBC errors (PPPP and CODE)

    Hey everyone,

I’ve got a ’92 325iC with the white-body (US market only) 13-button OBC with the melted LCD. Go figure.

So, I went on eBay and just replaced it with a black-body 13-button OBC from likely ’89 and in gorgeous condition. I swapped the “Type 4 6” coding plug over from my original one, and I'm getting two major errors.

    1) I’m getting the PPPP error in most of the settings (no temp, no mpg, etc.). All I get is the time, date, and the timer works. It eventually went away after doing some brief mojo — possibly hitting CODE and the tiny reset button, but that was with some luck. Now it’s not going away at all after pulling the fuse, even with that technique.

    2) The CODE immobilizer function does not work at all, and I used to use that all the time to doubly lock the car using my white-body 13-button OBC. When I press CODE, the LCD shows random garbage when the button is pressed down and it goes back to the time when I let go.

Is there a chance that what I got is actually incompatible with my ’92? Also wondering - is this what you get if there's not a good connection with the coding plug (i.e., Type 4 6)? I got a black one specifically so I’d never have to worry about the melting LCD ever again (replacement parts are available for the black one but not the white one). Praying I didn't get a bad one off of eBay and would be out $100+. Ugh.

    Thanks in advance! - Seth
