Hi there, I will be changing the oil on my 316i soon, I was wondering what is the best type of oil to use. Currently i run Mannol 15w40. My question is if that oil is too thick, do I need to run more thinner oil, if so which viscosity and which brand? I was thinking valvoline 10w40.

I have the exact engine as yours. I talked to my friends at BMW Group Classic, gave them my regular ambient temperature range (I'm living in Istanbul). They suggested me 15W-40 Touring High tech from Liqui Moly as this is what they use in this engine at their workshop. I've been using it ever since. I was also told that 10W-40 is also usable if wanted also from Liqui Moly. I went with 15W-40 and I'm happy with it.
