Hello everyone. I wanted to pose a question as i have searched and searched and found nothing. I have a basic level understanding of the motronic 173 ecu, currently studying. I do have some experience tuning a honda engine, its a hobby. I am looking into purchasing some new injectors for my m20 and would like the ability to adjust fuel and timing. I have gotten used to having this control at my disposal and it's simply something I enjoy "playing" with. I may also have aspirations to boost in the future, but that is way in the future(and i guess that is a job best served by MS anyhow)
So my question is about the moates demon. This device is typically used for tuning honda ecu's. I understand that a common method of tuning the motronic is using the ostrich and tunerpro software. For those who may not know the demon is a device similar to the ostrich but with additional features like a on-board microprocessor so with proper software it does datalogging, realtime tuning, boost control, etc. Its a eeprom emulator that is intended to be used permanently installed the ecu, seemingly like the war chip. I see that tunerproRT supports this device... I also gather that the honda ecu i've worked on and this motronic 173 use the same eeprom chip... (27SF256). So it seems that there is a slim possibility that I could use the demon in place of the ostrich. Basically just adjusting fuel trims and maybe minor timing adjustment. Then flash a chip and be done with it. Does anyone have knowledge of this being a viable setup?
Before I ask moates directly just wanted to see if anyone could elaborate on the idea; any obvious potential problems that I am to naive to see at this point. Essentially I am a cheap ass... i have a demon would like to use it to street tune my m20.
thanks!
