    M50b25NV MS2 V3 NO RPM

Hey guys, new to the fourm here but having been reading it for about a year now. Have been trying to get my M50 swap going for some time now powered by ms2 v3 with the 3.3.3 code. Factory engine and coils trying to run wasted spark using the LEDs as spark outputs. My problem is that i cannot get any rpm signal no matter how much i adjust the pots and the settings. I did a couple repairs and saw a rpm spike to 2500 during cranking, but that is all. Something that has been bothering me is that i cannot take logs with the ms on the car, however i was able to take generic logs through the megastim. Another side note is after about 10 minutes of adjusting and cranking (no longer than 3 seconds at a time) we noticed a small bit of smoke, coils on cyl 1 and 3 read 200 degrees! Others were fine though. I know this engine has known problems with cyl 3 cop before swap, in which i have new bav auto units to throw in it, but i wanted to be sure my dwell and things were correct before i threw them in and smoked them. Any help would be fantastic as i know many of you have been successful! I have been talking with matt, and others from ms extra fourm, but i figured here would be the best place for engine specifics.

Thanks for any help guys! I'm ready to get on the road with this thing!

(it wont let me load my msq, i can take screenshots of whatever you'd like though)

i know its no help, but why MS2? Isnt that batchfire and wasted spark?. the stock m50 is sequential with COP? am i missing something on why you did this? i ask because i just got a stand alone for mine
Looking for late model fogs, E39 Fog lights, cool cheap 17 5x120 wheels.

Sorry for the month late reply, I don't get any notifications? Megasquirt was a cheap aftermarket ecu option that I would learn loads from, my friends were doing it, it has lots of cool features, and i have read up on many successful m50 turbo builds utilizing it. Yes it is batchfire and wasted spark, but sequential and COP don't do a whole lot for performance per say, but rather efficiency. I feel like all the work i have done to the car for Ms2 has been a mistake at this point, i just can not get it to start no matter what i do, i wish i would have went with a WAR chip or ostritch 2.0 to be honest. I may be rewiring it stock soon just so i can drive it and do these simpler less headache options.

Sounds like you didn't set your coils correctly (going high or going low) and instead of firing them when you wanted, you were shutting them off when you wanted and otherwise they were on.

The Megasquirt is a fine ECU, definitely MUCH better than the Warship (My war chip was useless) and ostrich was probably closer to half way in-between. Why not just take the time to go over everything from the beginning again. I'm talking like wiring from MS to harness all the way to setting your coils and base map up.

Hello mercy, thanks for the reply! Is there an email i could reach you at to share my msq? My settings have always been set at going high because it is running the 6 BIP373. My email is drake51194@gmail.com

one of my main "concerns" is that the e36 it came out of was mine and i had it starting and dying on this harness and this ecu before i did the swap, and now that its in the new car i cant get rpm with everything the same, i may have made changes to the msq, and i added a wideband, but that is all.

I bought a Jimstim for further testing and i get the LEDs flashing as they should through that on a 60-2 wheel setting and all other functions work as needed there as well, but once its on the car, no RPM. This ecu has been stumping me for a long time now (fighting with it as i go through college isn't helping) but i do love every inch of it!

Also i just got done redoing some of the connections (DO NOT BUY CHEAP PLUGS!!!!) i made the mistake of buying cheapo connectors to make re installation easier since my old harness was solid (rewired the WHOLE engine, no jumper to the stock ecu connector, mistake?) and the pins continued to back out and lose contact.

I fixed all of those besides my crank VR, but i did check continuity installed and it was there, but i will be replacing that one today hopefully, yet this connector was on the other car that was starting.

All my grounds are to the head, and the block is grounded to the chassis. Whatever I can do to help you help me, let me know!!!
