On my old E36 M3 I had a Dynomax race muffler on it and loved it. With my '91 318i I want something with reasonable volume and as little drone as possible, so this intrigues me.
I know later model BMW's come stock with a variable valve set up to reduce droning. Also recall how effective Ferrari's adjustable valve set up was on the F430 - very reasonable volume until the pedal went all the way down, then the fun began. Biggest difference is in how the valve opens. Not sure, but I believe the F430 valve adjustment may have been throttle based. This Dynomax unit is exhaust flow based.
Anyone have experience with variable valves in aftermarket mufflers? If not I'm tempted to be the guinea pig and just try it. This is a new muffler from Dynomax but the technology isn't new.
