    failed smog..what is it?

I have asked this question a few times but no one has reall analyzed these numbers. Would running the car hard before the next smog make the NOx go down? I didn't warm up the car before this smog, just drove it about 7 miles to the place and then they smogged it...thanks

High NO2's are a direct result of either a faulty cat or a cat that is not at operating temerature. I wont put any money on it but I bet if you drove the hell out of it before the test, the NO2 numbers would come down significantly. You want to be able to hear the cat clicking when you turn the motor off. 7 miles would barely even get the car up to a decent operating temp. H miles on the freeway, maybe.

How you done a tune up lately?. Even changing the spark plugs might help your situation. NO2s are the molecules that should be burned before the cat, the cat is there to make sure almost all of the NO2s are gone. A hotter spark might help you with the NO2s. Go get some bosch copper core plugs or some NGK copper cores and change them out. Run the hell out of the car on the way back to the smog shop. I bet you'll pass

Okie dokie. I'm pretty sure I have intake leaks...can that affect the score also? I occasionally get the code 1222 when the check engine light comes on and the car runs very rough.

if you have intake leaks, your O2 sensor is telling your ECU to richen the fuel mixture to adapt to the added air i.e. intake leaks. This may be part of your problem. Toss some new spark plugs in there and change the O2 sensor then disconnect your battery. Reconnect it and then do a stomp test to see if your Lambda Control code is still there.
