Muff is bad want a new one

Hey Guy I was wondering if a specialist can just cut off my muffler and weld on a new one, or is the metal to old to weld? Also what kind of aftermarket muffler would you guys suggest, needs to be throaty and but calm when cruising on the highway.

I really don't want to spend 500 to 800 for new exhaust system so, please suggest thanks bimmer men.

If you need a new muff I suggest you find a willing member of the opposite sex on the craiglist personals.

But unless the exhaust pipe has rusted badly over the last 20+ years then any muffler shop can weld onto the existing pipe. The sound will be different depending on mufflers, are you wanting to keep the same look as the stock E30? Are you wanting a certain different look? Post a pic of something you like and we can probably find you an aftermarket muffler that might suit your taste. Though I, and others, will prefer you bite the bullet and buy a cat-back. Some ebay store has a nice looking stainless steel setup for less than $200 iirc. See if you can dig it up. You will have that much money in a new muffler and the labor to have it installed anyway!

So I got the diagnosis on my exhaust, the pipes from behind the cat are shot and obviously my muff is gone too. So I went to a specialist quoted me $425 dual in dual out, with a flowmaster 40, doesn't sound to bad to me, throaty, high flow. What do you guys think?

thats sounds way high i would say with muffler and piping 300 is the highest i would pay for duel pipe and flowmaster 40 muffler. I just got my dodge ram 2500 done for $150 3inch pipe from the down pipe to the exaust and that was with a fm40.

Yeah, just buy an aftermarket muff to your liking, then take to a muffler shop and they can add piping and resonators, hopefully for $100ish
