Just installed OE exhaust, miss the rusty old one.

So I just had a brand new OE exhaust installed on my car. Damn, that thing is quiet. It's like driving a Cadillac.

I can't complain about having a brand new exhaust, but I do miss the sound of my old one. I have no idea what it was, it was installed by the PO. One mechanic said it was a meineke muffler. It was a single tip. Anyway, it was rusted to the high heavens, and had a big giant hole in it, the size of Andre the Giant's dick.

But I loved the sound. After the patch fell off the hole, it was a little too loud. But before the patch fell off, it had a nice deep throaty note, and responded very enthusiastically when hitting the gas. upon decelerating, it would spit a little. It wasn't snarly, or obnoxious like those fart cans on civics. It was classy and just right.

Anyway, I'm looking for some suggestions for future reference for inexpensive, classy sounding aftermarket exhausts.

I just had the OE put on, and it's brand new, so I'm not getting rid for it for a long long time. But would like to know what to look for in the future.

    Thanks

Where did you get the OE exhaust? My muffler is rusted with a huge hole in it and I'm in the market for a cheap relacement.

I'm in the same boat. I love the sound on WOT, but man this thing is just too loud for driving around town.

Get the "IE" ebay stainless steel muffler. It sounds exactly how you want and is only $180 shipped. I had an IE exhaust for 3 years and absolutely loved it. Only got rid of it to go turbo. I miss the sound so bad.

180 shipped? That does sound tempting. Is it the realm of "too loud" for the street?

I have heard several of these. They are not by any means "too loud"...but if you wanna hear classy, see if you can hear an "EberSport", that would be the OE replacement made by Eberspacher, who is easily the highest-tech of any muffler manufacturer.

Eberspacher makes all BMW mufflers still, and your car came with one.

I would not consider it loud. i'd say pretty equivalent to a g35 as far as sound levels. Not in tone though.

Guten Parts hooked me up. Wasn't terribly cheap, about $250 I think. But a genuine BMW OE exhaust. Clean as a whistle.

Thanks everybody for the recommendations. Now that I'm nearly done bringing my car back up to zero, it's almost time for the upgrades. Gonna start with the usual,
              -5 sp swap
              -Euro weaves
              -HD struts for slight lowering,
              etc etc.

The exhaust will be the final item. But now I have a few good suggestions.

Get billie sports. It will be fine on a slightly lowered car.
