    Exhaust tone...

My M20 has a crack in the flex pipe before the 02 sensors so I was considering re-doing the whole system from manifolds back. I currently have a stock system y-piped into a Magnaflow 14815. I like the way it looks but, have not particularly enjoyed the sound. It has a little more drone then I would like. So I am considering building something new from the manifolds back rather then just replacing that front section. I really like the muffler and the tone of the one MonkeyMadness built but I'm not sure I can afford it with the AC repairs I am doing right now...

I am looking to make something that is going to preserve some exhaust tone. I was wondering if going with 2inch twin pipes with twin 2in cats all the way back to two small mufflers or glasspacks in the rear would have a different tone to just a single muffler. I honestly feel that the tone of two separate mufflers makes it sound more "pure" or "toned (for lack of better words) then a single muffler with twin tips.

And my intention is purely for sound quality first as this is a street car, rather then being specifically lightweight/performance but I figure if I am going to build something new I outta go with larger pipe. The 2.25 inlet of the magnaflow is already too small for the stock pipes so whether or not I go 2in pipes or single 2.5-3 it's gotta go.

    Thoughts?

p.s. I did enjoy the tone of the exhaust with just the muffler cut off but, it was too loud for daily duty IMO.
