Straight pipe off Ex. Manifolds and back to double pipes?

    Hello,
I bought a group of e30 parts and ended up with the following:

Standard iron exhaust manifolds going into 2 pipes, the 2 pipes blend down into one pipe which is 2 1/4" OD. later down the line it separates into 2 pipes again into what looks like a Cat. converter. Out of the converter are 2 pipe which bolt to a standard cat. back exhaust system.

Is this a trick set up? It looks custom but I am not sure.

Here is what it sounds like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hg-TVYfKZSo

The Youtube run is without the cat back exhaust in place.

Does this look like a toss up when considering power? Gain or loss?

    Thanks for any ideas

    Chuck

are the first two pipes 2.25" diameterer?
if so then the section where the two pipes go into one 2.25" pipe and out again to 2 2.25" pipes would be restrictive...eliminate it in the piping or replace it with a 3" pipe.

im planning my exhaust now, im gonna run ebay headers-2.25" dual pipes going into a 3" inlet of a highflow cat and out a 3" outlet of the cat into dual 2.25" pipes running to monkey madness dual 2.25" muffler setup....it should VERY free flowing.
