I wouldn't worry about "free flowing" mufflers as much. The tubing size will do that. There is a lot of room for a muffler in the rear and not a huge amount of room for a resonator. If I redo the whole thing I'll try to use the same rear muffler in 2 1/4 and a real resonator instead of the summit glaspack.

Have you found a resonator that will fit?

Thanks for all the info harv, I need to build a new exhaust too. I was thinking of using this muffler: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-17804/ What do you think?

          I've got a '91 318is.

you guys have any experience with Jones Exhaus? I'm planning on doing a custom exhaust with a friend who has a MIG welder, in a month or so. I'm going cheap though, pretty broke. Yea im thinking about a 16" resonator into about a 20" muffler. Jones seems pretty cheap, and whatever reviews i could find they seem good. Seems like they make exhausts for some bigger names, kinda like ghostbuilding.

Also, what kind of piping did you get for your build? I'm not sure what lengths, bends, angles to get.
